Iridium Communications today launched the Iridium GO Exec, a new kind of personal satellite communication device that offers the most powerful, ultra-portable connectivity to all smartphones, tablets, and laptops; redefining off-the-grid connectivity. The Iridium GO Exec, designed for business usage but created for everyone, offers a natural extension of your world off-the-grid for email sending and receiving, using chat or office programs, making phone calls, sharing images, posting to social media, or getting assistance in an emergency.
The Iridium GO Exec is built on Iridium Certus technology and offers better data rates at a size, weight, power, and price unheard of in the satellite business, building on the success of the original Iridium GO, released in 2014. It’s perfect for tying together remote workers, staff of non-profit organizations, the government, first responders, GA pilots, sailors, and regular adventurers, enabling them to remain connected and productive from any location; redefining off-the-grid connectivity.
Due to the Iridium GO Exec’s extreme portability, it can be taken effortlessly from a boat to the beach or from a jeep to the field. It can even fit in a bag and be mounted on the glareshield of a personal aircraft. Wi-Fi allows many users to connect their smart devices wirelessly, and tethered devices can be connected to the Internet using the built-in ethernet connector.
“When we launched the Iridium GO! nine years ago, our vision was to allow anyone with a smartphone to stay connected when they were off the grid,” said Iridium CEO Matt Desch. “We’ve now turbocharged that capability with the Iridium GO! exec. There’s nothing like this device for businesses, governments or consumers that want to stay productive beyond terrestrial coverage.”
The Iridium GO Exec, which is packed with new functions, may operate as a stand-alone device to make calls using a speakerphone or to place an SOS call if the user’s smart smartphone runs out of power. It integrates with widely used chat, email, and other native programs that users are familiar with. It has a powerful battery that allows for prolonged operation while traveling and can even be used as a power bank to directly charge a smartphone or tablet via a separate USB-C power output.
Developers are already working on Iridium GO Exec versions of various apps that are well-liked by Iridium GO users. Custom applications can also be created for the Iridium GO Exec utilizing an API given by Iridium. Additional accessories are anticipated to be made available in the upcoming months, including a fixed-install kit and external antenna for boats and distant areas.
