3 Restricted Countries where an Iridium phone will not complete a call to the local phone system are: North Korea, Poland, & Hungary. Embargoed countries where we cannot guarantee service and you may have issues taking an Iridium phone through customs/border patrols: Cuba, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Angola & Yugoslavia.

Actual coverage may vary because of gateway deployment, local licensing and other factors. Service is a satellite radio technology subject to transmission limitations caused by type of terrain, service area limits, customer equipment use and other variable conditions including the functionality and orbital locations of the satellites themselves.
Satellite phone numbers are different from land and cellular systems. Each satellite provider has a unique prefix followed by an eight or nine digit number.
For Iridium, the number would begin with 8816 followed by eight digit phone number, Inmarsat begins with 870 followed by nine digit phone number, and Thuraya begins with 882 16 followed by an eight digit number.
In addition to the prefix and phone number, callers must know and use international dialing codes.
To call out from an Iridium, Inmarsat, or Thuraya satellite phone, the caller needs a clear view of the sky and the phone should be registered to the satellite network. When the phone is ready to dial enter 00 plus the country code and phone number:

To call an Iridium, Inmarsat, or Thuraya satellite phone, the caller needs to enter the international dialing code (i.e. In United States use 011, In Europe use 00, Etc*) and satellite phone number:
Country codes are used when dialing an international phone number. On the other hand, exit codes (also known as international access codes or IDD International Direct Dialing codes) are used for dialing out of your country. For example if you want to call from Anguilla to Afghanistan you must dial: 011 + 93 + phone number.

Trunk Codes are single or double digit codes used to place calls within a certain country. They are left out when dialing in from abroad.
