- SIM card can be activated online within 1 year of purchase
- The expiry date of your Iridium SIM card begins when the card is activated or refiled
- Maximum expiry period per account is 3 years
- Calls are decremented in 20 second increments, text are decremented per mesage
- Calls to check voicemail are considered outgoing calls
- Airtime can be refiled at the then current retail rate of the card you choose, prior to expiry. When you refill, your expiry date is automaticaly extended and you retain your original Iridium phone number
- You are able to extend for the expiry date by 30 days at a time for a small fee without having to refill airtime

Standard Iridium Satellite Phone Prepaid Service SIM Cards
The expiration date can be extended by purchasing a prepaid voucher or 30 day extension (excluding the 75 minute voucher). Please request a minimum of 48 hours before your SIM expiry date. If the expiry date is not extended then your SIM Card will expire and become invalid. Any minutes remaining will be lost and your SIM will enter a 270 day grace period in which you may reactivate the SIM by adding a new voucher, however the original balance will be lost and will not be added to the new balance. After this 270 day period has ended the SIM will automatically deactivated, meaning that you will need to pay $350 reactivation fee as well as the voucher or purchase a new SIM Card and prepaid voucher.
300 Minute Iridium Prepaid Satellite Phone Plan
This date cannot be extended. When the expiry date is reached then your SIM Card will become invalid. Any minutes remaining will be lost and your SIM will enter a 270 day grace period. Within the grace period you may reactivate by adding a new voucher from either the Standard Worldwide or Regional iridium prepaid plans. Please note that the original balance is lost on the day the SIM expires and will not be added to the new balance after reactivation.
If you have not reactivated under a new prepaid plan by the end of this 270 period the SIM will automatically deactivate meaning that you will need to pay $350 reactivation fee as well as the voucher or purchase a new SIM Card and prepaid voucher.
Africa Prepaid Satellite Airtime Service SIM Card
The expiration date can be extended by purchasing a 300 minute / one year prepaid voucher. Please request a minimum of 48 hours before your SIM expiry date. On the Africa plan the years validity will run from the day the SIM is recharged not from the Expiry Date. If the expiry date is not extended then your SIM will expire and become invalid. Any minutes remaining will be lost and your SIM will enter a 270 day grace period in which you may reactivate the SIM by adding a new voucher; however the original balance will be lost and will not be added to the new balance. After this 270 period has ended the SIM will automatically deactivate meaning that you will need to pay $350 reactivation fee as well as the voucher or purchase a new SIM Card and voucher.
Iridium Northern Lights Prepaid Service Plans
The expiration date can be extended by purchasing another Northern Lights 200 minute / 6 month prepaid voucher. Please request a minimum of 48 hours before your SIM expiry date. On the Northern Lights plan the years validity will run from the day the SIM is recharged not from the Expiry Date.
If the expiry date is not extended then your SIM Card will expire and become invalid. Any minutes remaining will be lost and your SIM will enter a 270 day grace period in which you may reactivate by adding a new voucher, however the original balance will be lost and will not be added to the new balance. This date can be extended by purchasing a further 200 minute / 6 month Latin America voucher. Please request a minimum of 48 hours before your SIM expiry date. On the Latin America plan the years validity will run from the day the SIM is recharged not from the Expiry Date. If the expiry date is not extended then your SIM Card will expire and become invalid. Any minutes remaining will be lost and your SIM will enter a 270 day grace period in which you may reactivate by adding a new voucher, however the original balance will be lost and will not be added to the new balance. After this 270 period has ended the SIM will automatically deactivate meaning that you will need to pay $350 reactivation fee as well as the voucher or purchase a new SIM Card and voucher.
Prepaid Satellite Airtime Service MENA Plan
The expiration date cannot be extended on the MENA prepaid SIM. You may add any new prepaid voucher to the SIM card. Please note that the original balance will be lost.
If you have not reactivated the SIM under a new prepaid plan by the end of the 270 day grace period the SIM will automatically deactivate meaning that you will need to pay $350 reactivation fee as well as the voucher or purchase a new SIM Card and prepaid voucher.

Iridium Prepaid Expiry Policy Explained.
Since December 17, 2013 Iridium has been enforcing a maximum validity for the balance of vouchers as below.
All prepaid ‘units’ that have been carried over (from extension top ups) for more than three years will be expired on a daily basis from prepaid account balances. For any customer who has purchased a 3k/5k e‐voucher since December 17, 2009 and going forward, a four‐year expiry period on units will apply.
Units will expire based on the oldest voucher purchase activity which is greater than three years (four years for 3k/5k e‐vouchers) that has not yet been consumed, if applicable. As well as the above, please note that the maximum expiry period allowed at any one time is 3 years.
Unit balances are available to customers by calling 2888 or sending an SMS to 2888 from their Iridium handset. Users will be given the balance of units that may expire if not used within the next six months. This message will be based on the oldest e‐voucher purchase activity and units that are subject to expiry within the next six months, if applicable.
