Sumitomo Construction Machinery Co.,Ltd. (SCM), a major producer of heavy equipment and heavy equipment satcom user, has installed Iridium satellite communications for its Link-Belt Excavators, according to a recent announcement from Iridium Communications Inc. Short Burst Data (SBD) service from Iridium has been added to SCM’s RemoteCARE service platform through this partnership, and the company plans to continue expanding deployment across the globe.
Link-Belt RemoteCARE is an intuitive management tool that uses GPS and telematics data to remotely track and monitor machine performance with heavy eqiupment satcom. LBX will gain a number of advantages from iridium connectivity, including truly global real-time connectivity, dependable two-way communications for location tracking, operational performance reports, working status updates, periodic maintenance reports, and 24-hour security and geofencing capabilities. Additionally, Link-Belt RemoteCARE can now help SCM’s customers in new geographic areas, which was previously impossible owing to a lack of connectivity, thanks to Iridium coverage.
“At SCM we prioritize providing reliable asset management capabilities to customers through our Link-Belt RemoteCARE system with heavy equipment satcom. The addition of Iridium satellite connectivity will deliver many benefits including highly reliable connectivity and real-time communication of important machinery data,” said Hiroyuki Tsukamoto, General Manager of ICT Utilization and Analytic Operations, Sumitomo Construction Machinery Co.,Ltd. “It will also enhance our telematics business and expand our worldwide deployment. We are happy to be an Iridium partner and establish this long-term relationship.”
“Sumitomo Group is a world class corporation with a profound history, and we’re honored that they’re adding Iridium satellite connectivity to their heavy equipment,” says Bryan Hartin, Executive Vice President, Iridium. “The addition of Iridium connectivity for Link-Belt RemoteCARE will help expand machinery monitoring to the most remote places in North America, and we look forward to seeing this expansion continue globally.”
Iridium is the market leader in satellite IoT connection and has established the de-facto standard for heavy equipment manufacturers worldwide and heavy equipment satcom. Iridium commercial IoT subscribers increased by 24 percent from the same period last year to 1,193,000 users as of the fourth quarter of 2021. No other satellite provider can match Iridium’s coverage, dependability, and simplicity of use.
